Week 4

Liberty Creek vs Stratford

L 18 - 55 (1-3)

Unable to continue their offensive onslaught from the previous week, The Stratford Spartans (1-3, 0-1)) came out pretty flat in week four against divisional opponent Liberty Creek High School, succumbing to the Wolfpack 55-18.

Another first year program, Liberty Creek seemed to pull out all the stops (including a timely hook-and-ladder play for TD) to coast to their first win of the season. Even in the losing effort, junior Spartan running back Quortez Gilbert-Duncan manage to break for 108 yards rushing and a TD on nine touches. Senior Quarterback Justyce Law threw for 150 yards and one TD on just 9-of-20 completions, plus one INT. Stratford will have to ratchet up their efforts on both sides of the ball to break their three-game slide next week.

Week 3

James Lawson vs Stratford

L 49 - 32 (1-2)

The Stratford Spartans (1-2) fell just a little bit short (49-32) to James Lawson High School (formerly Hillwood High School) in week three.

The two teams’ combined 81 points thrilling the capacity crowd in Lawson’s brand-new stadium for the Lightning’s inaugural season. Senior Quarterback Justyce Law had himself a game, racking up 496 total yards and four touch downs. He completed 32 of his 52 pass attempts (61%) for 380 yards, two TDs and only one INT. Law also rushed for 116 yards on 24 carries adding two additional TDs. Sophomore wide receiver Jaxyn Law, younger brother to Justyce, led the team in catches with eight, tallying 133 yards and a TD in the process. All-in-all, the boys in black and orange were humming on offense, but they couldn’t overcome costly turn overs and giving up a kick return for TD to Lawson in the second half.

Week 2

McGavock vs Stratford

L 30 - 12 (1-1)

In stifling heat and humidity, the Stratford Spartans came up a little bit short at home (30-14) in their week two contest against McGavock High School.

On paper McGavock, a 6A program, should have throttled the orange and black, but the scrappy Spartans held court until the fourth quarter, when things began to slip away. Junior running back Quortez Gilbert-Duncan took the opening kickoff to the house for a 67-yard TD, but further high lights were hard to come by for the Spartans. Senior quarter back Justyce Law only went 8/20 for 83 yards through the air and Stratford only had 57 yards total rushing in the loss.

Week 1

Glencliff vs Stratford

The Stratford Spartans started off their ’23 season on a positive note, downing non-district opponent Glencliff 38-19 at home.

Senior Quarterback Justyce Law lead the charge with 277 yards passing on 17/29 attempts (a 58% completion rate) and 3 TDs, including an impressive 60-yard TD bomb to sophomore wide out sensation Vantrease White Jr., who went for 81 total yards on 3 catches. Senior receiver Marqui Mitchell added 7 grabs for 106 yards and score as well.

Sophomore Linebacker Alexander House led the defensive effort, with 9 total tackles (4 solo) to cap off an impressive week one outing.
